An autonomous power system serves the power needs of Chukotka. The power system of the Okrug comprises power stations of Chukotenergo PJSC and the Bilibino Nuclear Power Station, a part of Rosenergoatom Concern. In remote villages and settlements, there is a small-scale rural power supply system, which consists of diesel stations and boiler houses that do not form a unified power network.Between 2001 and 2005, the Okrug administration took a number of measures aimed at the development and provision of sustainable operation of the fuel-energy complex of CHAO. Among them were:

- reconstruction of a number of functioning power stations;
- technical re-equipment of coal industry companies;
- extension of the raw materials base through putting into operation the West-Ozernoe gas field;
