Fishery is the leader among the basic industry branches of Chukotka's economy in regards of the profit volumes it brings; it is showing steady growth and high profitability. Compare: the fishery of the region accounts for 10% of its profit, 9.65% are provided by the gold and silver mining industry. Between 2000 and 2004, the branch had the following characteristics:

- Profit of the branch grew by 124%;
- Productivity – by 101%; and
- The number of the people employed in this sector of economy – by 11%.

The most valuable sea resources are:
- 5 species of Pacific salmon (Siberian salmon, red salmon, hunchback salmon, silversides and king salmon);
- Invertebrates (blue crabs, pointed shrimps, yellow sea-urchins).
