Implementation of the projects of utilization of renewable power resources will make the Okrug's economy significantly different in the nearest future and greatly improve the economy of the Region. Chukotka has a considerable reserve of renewable energy, which, however, has not been used up until present.
The first Chukotka’s 3 MWatt diesel power station consisting of 10 wind generators, 250 KWatts power each and 1 diesel generator, 500 KWatts in capacity, has been built on Observatsia Cape of Anadyr Region. Expected annual power output is about 1.5 million KWatt/hour, which accounts for 50% of all power used in Anadyr Region.
A combined system of power supply is working in the conditions of optimal utilization of electric power in Anadyr Region and makes it possible to decrease the consumption of diesel fuel by 30-80% keeping the life time of diesel generators 2-3 times longer.
- Wind power installations. Wind energy is one of the perspective trends in the development of alternative power generation. Building wind stations is planned to be undertaken along all of the East coast of Chukotka in 14 different settlements. Utilization of wind power installations allows for a considerable drop in the volumes of burnt organic fuel and reduction of harmful emissions in the atmosphere, as well as the dependence of the Okrug on expensive energy carriers. Wind energy resources of the Autonomous Okrug reach 1.5 trillion kwh/year (over 14% of all around Russia), and are characterized as highly stable ones.

- Exploration of geothermal resources. In 2001, the Government of the Autonomous Okrug charged the Icelandic company «Kamhnit Ltd» with the development of an engineering project of the Kukun hot springs reclamation and construction of the system of hot water supply of the settlement of Lorino, the Chukotskiy Region. Meanwhile the preparation of a preliminary feasibility study of utilization of geothermal resources for developing a system of central heating in the village of Novoye Chaplino, Providensky District is under way. Geothermal resource specialists suppose that the results of the project show great effectiveness of the utilization of Lorinskoe field.
