Resources and expected volumes of production of gold are different for each part of the CAO. Most of resources are located within the boundaries of the Chukotka’s Metallogenic System (north of Chukotka), which has been well geologically explored. Here major resources and expected resources of placer gold are located, many lode deposits (such as the Maiskoe, the Karalveem) are discovered and thoroughly studied, and gold-quartz and gold-sulphide formation types are most likely to occur.
Second biggest metallogenic system is the Oloisk metallogenic system, characterized by high placerity of gold and gold-quartz-sulphide and molybdenum-copper gold-containing formation.
Within the boundaries of the Okhot-Chukotka metallogenic belt (south-east part of the territory) there prevail gold-silver formation type deposits (Kupol, Dvoinoe, etc.).
Koryat-Kamchatka Province (south-east of the Okrug) has been least studied and is viewed as prospective for finding complex deposits of gold-containing molybdum-copper and copper formations as well as lode and placer platinum deposits. Prospects of further development and exploration of gold mineral raw stuffs basis of the district are connected with expansion of search within the boundaries of poorly-explored areas of the Okhot-Chukotka metallogenic belt. A series of gold-silver deposits with rich ores (“the Kupol”, the Arykevaamskoe, the Televeemskoe, etc.) has been recently found in that metallogenic system. Here small and medium gold-silver deposits may be found with ores rich in precious metals within the bounds and near the existing ore deposits such as Maiskoe, Valunistoe, Kupol as well as over prospective areas of the Upper-Yablonsk and Kanchalan-Amguemsk metallogenic zones. To solve these problems, they are going to expand geological exploration works to ore and placer gold by using the budget, company’s cash assets, and investment, and to create favorable conditions for investments in prospective ore deposits interesting to both Russian and foreign companies.
In 2006 auctions are being organized to sell 6 prospective gold ore deposits of central and west Chukotka and as a result Russian and foreign capital investment will be attracted for geologic exploration and gold-mining at the objects, the exploration of which will secure long-term stability of gold and silver mining. Moreover, within the next 3 years there will be held auctions with the aim of selling another 40 placer gold deposits.
