Prospective places in the interior of the Earth
On the territory of Chukotka Autonomous Okrug prospective places of the interior of the Earth cover 48.1 thousand kilometres (7% of the area of the Okrug). On the neighbouring shelves of Beringov and Chukotka seas they cover the territory of 124 thousand km. Within Chukotka Autonomous Okrug and the shelves of the sea washing the Okrug, the following prospective oil and gas basins have been found:
It is estimated that the total of 740/471 million tons in oil equivalent (740 million- geological resources, 471 million – extracted resources) is found in Chukotka. That includes:
Water area resources
One of the most important areas is a 12-mile-long zone of territorial waters, which is under the jurisdiction of the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug. Its total area in Chukotka and Bering seas is 31,000 kilometres. Its geological resources are estimated to be 470 mln tons in oil equivalent.
Forecast
Expected resources of oil and gas shelf fields are 10 billion tons of conventional fuel.
