Sports finals for the Chukotka Okrug Governor Cup
Northern all-round competitions, volleyball and mini-football championships for the Chukotka Cup were held from 1994 to 1996.
In 1996 they were renamed into "Sports Finals for the Chukotka Okrug Governor Cup". This is a major sport event for the region, by its results sport organizations judge their work during the previous year.
The program of these competitions includes North-Arctic and traditional sports, mini-football, volleyball, basketball, table tennis, classical wrestling, swimming. In the frames of the Cup there are "Sport Elite" contests for the title of the best athlete, trainer, teacher, sport group, sport club, etc. and a contest for the best arrangement of sports and training work among general and sport schools, colleges, children’s homes, sport camps, etc.
The best organization is awarded with a prestigious prize – challenge Chukotka Okrug Governor Cup.
The "Rilet" deer-ledge race
The deer-ledge race for the Governor Cup is held annually in March/April in folk villages of the Anadyr District.
The team and personal championship program includes a 90 km and 10 km race for men and a 5 km race for women from reindeer-breeding villages of the area.
Also in the frames of this championship such competitions as traditional snow-wrestling, snow-shoes race, Chukotka ball-game and throwing of chaat are held.
The "Nadezhda" dog-ledge race
The "Nadezhda" dog-ledge race for the Governor Cup is held annually in April by the Lavrenthy Village – Providence village – Lavrenthy Village route (altogether more than 400 km).
Participants both from the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug and other regions of Russia may participate in it.
Number of dogs in one ledge is from 8 to 12. During the race ledge must be carried by not less than 5 dogs and racer should finish with at least 6 dogs.
Racer who shows best time is awarded with the challenge Governor Cup, a certificate of participation, a champion’s banner and a money prize.
The "Korfest" culture and sport event
For more than 10 years now the "Korfest" ("Smelt Festival") takes place in the capital of the Chukotka Okrug every year in April. It is held on the coast of the Anadyr Bay. People love it and arrive to this festival not only from the city of Anadyr, but also from other parts of Chukotka and the rest of Russia.
Competitions to celebrate the Defender of the Motherland Day
These are organized annually in cooperation with the Military Unit No. 12848. The program includes all-round tournament of representatives of military and other power structures and young people undergoing pre-conscription military training.
Till 1996 in the frames of the Defender of the Motherland Day celebration a competition in game sports had been held.
All-round tournament includes "Makarov" pistol shooting, standing broad jump, shuttle run, pulling-up.
Up to 150 sportsmen participate.
The Chukotka Students Sport Festival
The festival is held annually since 1997. Students of 6 district educational establishments participate in it, altogether more than 120 people.
The program includes: all-round athletics, street ball, beach volleyball, mini-football, weight-lifting, table tennis, arm sport.
The competition is held during 5 days.
The best sportsmen are united into a district team to participate in the All-Russia Students Sport Festival in Khabarovsk.
Competitions to celebrate the All-Russia Gymnastics Day
The program used to include traditional wrestling, children competitions, football, weight-lifting, arm sport, North-Arctic sports, long-distance running, street ball.
Since 1998 on the All-Russia Gymnastics Day a street ball tournament in honor of S.B.Levin, honored physical training and sport worker, senior coach of the Chaoun Children Sport School basketball team, is held.
Up to 150 sportsmen participate.
Competitions to celebrate the Russian Militia Day
These competitions are organized in cooperation with the Internal Affairs Department and the Youth and Sport Department of the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug and held since 1994. Originally the program included volleyball, basketball, table tennis, mini-football, weight-lifting.
Since 1997 all-round professional competition for the Internal Affairs Department Cup are also held. The main sports in its program first were shooting and physical training in general. In 1998 swimming competition was added and in 2000 – one more contest: figure automobile driving.
Up to 100 sportsmen participate.
Students’ game-sports tournament
The tournament is held since 1998. The program includes volleyball, basketball, mini-football. Mostly student teams participate, altogether up to 120 people.
The "Beringia" sea-hunters festival
The first Chukot-Eskimo canoes regatta named "Beringia" took place in July, 1992, in Uelen Village. Route of the canoe race went from the Ratmanov island to Uelen.
After that the race was held in Lorino, Lavrenthy and Uelen Villages.
Every year other sports for different population groups got included in the program, such as: canoe race for women and juniors, whaleboat oar race, running, traditional wrestling, traditional triple jump, target throwing of harpoon, distance throwing of harpoon, chaat throwing, rope pulling, Eskimo stick pulling, stick-running, knee-jump, Eskimo jump.
In the frames of the festival an amateur theatricals contest, a fair and a sea-hunters meeting are held.
Up to 400 people visit the celebration.
Chukotka wrestling tournament in the memory of A.S.Malyvanov
The tournament is held annually in November since 1996. Up to 80 junior wrestlers from Anadyr participate in it.
Competitions to celebrate the Victory Day
These are organized annually in cooperation with the military unit No12848 command. The program includes Makarov pistol and Kalashnikov automatic gun shooting, disassembling and assembling of a Kalashnikov. Teams of power structures participate, altogether up to 100 people.
The Chukotka Football Teams Division Competition
The competition is held since October 2000.
In the first season the tournament was held in 5 runs. 6 teams participated.
The competition was instituted by the Youth, Physical Training, Sport and Tourism Committee of the Anadyr district and city of Anadyr, the regional Internal Affairs Department and Military Unit No 12848.
Up to 80 sportsmen participate.
Students Volleyball League competition
The competition is held since January 2001. At least 7 teams of Anadyr and the Anadyr district educational establishments participate in it, altogether about 80 people.
