Geographical position and climate

In the east the Chukotka Peninsula borders on Alaska, on the south – on the Koryak autonomous district, in the south-west – on the Magadan region and in the north-west – on the Yakutia-Sakha Republic. In the north the Chukotka shores are washed with the East Siberian and the Chukchi Seas of the Arctic Ocean.
Local time is 9 hours ahead of the Moscow time.
The main means of transportation here is aviation (planes and helicopters). Anadyr airport performs regular passenger flights to Moscow (Domodedovo Airport), Khabarovsk, Magadan, Omsk and district centers of the region. Flight Moscow (Vnukovo Airport) – Pevek is also available. From airport in Providence one can fly to the town of Nome (Alaska, USA).
Average annual temperatures on the territory of the Chukotka Okrug are well below zero, lowering from south to north from -4oC to -12oC, so any time of year you may need a warm sweater and a waterproof overcoat. Winter season lasts for 7-8 months. In winter and off-season you will need solid and convenient footwear, warm clothes and a hat, preferably fur.
In the open sun-protective cream and sunglasses are recommended. In June and July use mosquito repellents.
